BEFORE we begin, if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, take a moment to name your sins to God the Father. This will allow you to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit as you read this booklet ( EPH 5:18 & 1JO 1:9). IF YOU HAVE never believed in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have that opportunity right now. Simply tell God the Father that you are believing on His Son Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. If you make that decision, you are now a believer and will always be a child of God! When you die, you will spend eternity with Him forever in heaven! (JOH 3:16 & ACT 16:31).
In our study of Happiness, we’ve learned that the third category of happiness found in the Bible is called false happiness. False happiness comes from Satan who is trying to get us to believe that he has something better than the happiness and blessing which God can provide.Satan’s goal is to keep man deceived through falsehappiness. What he does is try to make things happen in our lives so that we become too ambitious and self-indulgent.
If a person is too ambitious, that person might have a strong desire to become famous, rich, or to reach a certain goal. If a person is self-indulgent, that person is totally caught up withgetting what he or she wants. If a person becomes too ambitious or self-indulgent, it will cancel out the happiness God provided, so beware! This is why John said in 1JOH 2:15:Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.“Loving the world” refers to being too involved with ourselves and our own desires. It means being caught up in worldly things - Satan’s things - making them more important than God. John goes on to say: For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. (1JOH 2:16) Satan is behind the system called “the world” in this passage. The system is also called the cosmic system and Satan fills it with lies about what happiness truly is. Satan wants us to believe that money, success, pleasure, lots of friends, public approval, fame, material things, travel, health, and pleasant circumstances alone can make us happy. NOT! Can these things make us happy for a while? Yes, of course they can - but the happiness doesn’t last. These things may be enjoyable and fun, but they can’t support you in time of suffering or tragedy.
If you depend only on these things for happiness, you are actually weak because you don’t have the happiness that only God can give. But if, as a believer in Jesus Christ, you have been faithful in studying and then applying Bible doctrine and you have grown spiritually, you’re not only a strong person, but you also have great inner happiness. And you can take this inner happiness with you no matter what happens in your life!
Never forget that Satan is the ruler of this world. We learn this in LUK 4:5-7: And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours.” In EPH 2:2, he is called “the prince of the power of the air” which means he has been given the power to influencethe educational system, the media, television, radio, literature, etc. — anything that can be used to change our way of thinking and make us believe what he wants us to believe.Satan rules and controls through a policy called arrogance. This is the opposite of God’s policy of grace. But remember that Satan can only succeed in getting a believer or an unbeliever to think they’re happy if that person chooses to become involved in the cosmic system. So watch it!!
The presence of arrogance in your soul is a guarantee of unhappiness throughout your life. Arrogance destroys any chance for happiness. Jealousy is part of arrogance and you can’t be jealous and be happy at the same time. Self-pity is also part of arrogance; and you can’t have self-pity and be happy. Being guilty is part of arrogance, too. And you can’t be guilty and be happy. Arrogance also includes hard-heartedness, spite, and hatred. When you have mental attitude sins like these, you guarantee your unhappiness. And from there your unhappiness will grow, causing you to try all sorts of things to find happiness. In REV 12:9we are told: And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world. Satan misleads, distracts, and “deceives the whole world” into false ideas about what happiness is. A short, good time can certainly seem like happiness while it’s happening. But it isn’t permanent; it’s brief. It is false happiness, and the great deceiver of this world has trapped many individuals by making them pushovers for this fake happiness. As 2TI 2:26 says they are being “held captive by Satan to do his will.”
We call it fake happiness because, in addition to those moments of happy times, your life will also include bad times and dull times. And when you are bored or facing problems, temporary happiness won’t keep you going. People can’tbe kept going by good times! But on the other hand, God’s perfect happiness is a magnificent problem-solving device because you have it all the time, and all you do is tune into it during when you’re faced with a problem solving.
Arrogant preoccupation with yourself (which comes from getting caught up in the cosmic system) guarantees unhappiness. When you experience fake happiness, you’re excited for a little while, but then, it’s gone.Fake happiness comes from any form of enjoyment or excitement which gives you pleasure for a moment, but doesn’t stand up in times of pressure, suffering, or Divine testing. During these times, the believer needs to use Bible doctrine. This is why what you’re doing right now is so very important. Did you know that your happiness depends on it??
