New England Bible Conference 2004. Your personal sense of destiny. Part 4. .

Thursday, August 5, 2004

1. The importance of understanding that God has placed a desire for that which is eternal within your heart as a part of your personal sense of destiny, ECC 3:11.

2. Although this desire is in every person, every person does not have this desire fulfilled.

3. Having the desire for that which is eternal = every member of the human race has a divine destiny or a destination for their life desired by God.

4. The desire for that which is eternal still lacks the power in itself to advance a person spiritually.

5. The person who does not have his desire for a relationship with God fulfilled will end up desiring many other things from the world which can never fill that void or emptiness.

Most people never think of the present in the sense of their relationship with God.

In His grace, God gives us passions and desires which can only be fulfilled by getting to know our personal sense of destiny.

ECC 3:11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also He hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

ECC 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], - AMP

ECC 3:11 Everything is appropriate in its own time. But though God has planted eternity in the hearts of men,
- TLB
ECC 3:11 God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart
- NLT

ECC 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time; also He has put eternity into man’s mind

ECC 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men
- NIV

Eternity - ‘et-haa`olaam = the eternal or the desire or longing for the eternal or that which is eternal.

In His grace, God gives us passions and desires which can only be fulfilled by getting to know our personal sense of destiny.

Many people try to use God for their own self purpose, but that is a reversal of the divine objective and is doomed to failure.

You were made for God, not vice versa, and life is about letting God use you for His purposes, not you using Him for your own purpose.

Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into a spacious, liberated, free life. - JOH 8:32 “and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Self-help books, even Christian ones, usually offer the same predictable steps to finding the purpose of your life, fulfilling your dreams, clarifying your values, setting some goals.

JOH 3:30 “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

Being successful and fulfilling your personal sense of destiny are not at all the same issue.

MAT 16:26 “For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul?”

JOH 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
1CO 13:3 And if I give all my possessions to feed {the poor,} and if I deliver my body to be burned, but do not have virtue-love, it profits me nothing.

1TI 4:8 for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and {also} for the {life} to come.

It is not about finding the right career, achieving your dreams, or planning your life.
It is not about how to cram more activities into an already overloaded schedule.

The Lord will teach you how to do less in life by focusing on what matters most, your personal sense of destiny and eternity.

Your first option is speculation.
The alternative is divine revelation.

The easiest way to discover the purpose of an invention is to ask the originator about it.

The Bible is our Owner’s Manual, explaining why we are alive, how life works, what to avoid, and what to expect in the future.

God’s wisdom goes deep into the interior of His purposes.

God is not just the starting point of your life; He is the source of it and the central point.

It is in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.
ACT 17:28 for in Him we live and move and exist,

PHI 1:6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who has begun in you an absolute good work will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.
PHI 2:13 for it is God [the Holy Spirit] who is at work in you, both to will [give you motivation] and to work [He gives you the ability to execute] above and beyond His good pleasure.

1. You will discover your identity and personal sense of destiny through a relationship with TLJC.

2. Understanding of your personal sense of destiny will reveal how God was thinking of you long before you ever thought about Him.

3. The purpose of your life fits into a much larger purpose that God has designed for eternity.

ISA 55:8-9 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For {as} the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”

If you pray for strength so that you might achieve; He may make you weak so that you might obey.
If you pray for health that you might do greater things; He may give you afflictions that you might do even greater things.

If you pray for riches that you might be happy; He may give you poverty that you might be wise.
If you pray for power that you might have the praise of men; He may give you weakness that you might experience the need for God.

If you pray for all things that you might enjoy life; He may give you life that you might enjoy all things.

You may receive nothing you asked for - but everything you desire and had hoped for.

ISA 45:18, For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, But formed it to be inhabited, "I am the Lord, and there is none else.

God created free-will creatures because He is a God of love. God made you so He could love you.

The Bible tells us, “God is love,” 1JO 4:8, it does not say God has love.

ECC 4:4 And I have seen that every labor and every skill which is done is {the result of} rivalry between a man and his neighbor. This too is vanity and striving after wind.

Solomon observed that the basic motive for success is the driving force of envy and jealousy.

Drive = “to guide, to control, or to direct.”

1. Many people are driven by guilt.

JOH 12:43 for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God.

Guilt-driven people are usually manipulated by memories.

a. Parents use guilt as a method of disciplining and correcting their children.

b. Satan accuses God’s people to try to make them feel guilty, REV 12:10.
